Terms

Terms

The agreement between you and Cira — written to be read, not to be survived.

The short version

  • Cira is $8 a month after a free 8-minute trial. No card to try it.
  • Cancel any time, in one click. You keep Pro until the period you paid for ends.
  • 14 days to change your mind on your first payment — full refund, no questions.
  • What you dictate is yours. We don't train on it and we don't sell it.

That's the gist. The sections below are the actual agreement.

Who you're agreeing with

Cira is made and run by one person, based in British Columbia, Canada. When these terms say "we," that's who they mean. By downloading or using Cira, you're agreeing to what's on this page.

Who can use Cira

You need to be 19 or older and able to enter into a contract. One account per person, and you're responsible for what happens under yours. Cira needs macOS 14 Sonoma or later.

What Cira does

You hold a hotkey, speak, and Cira turns it into clean text wherever you were typing. Some of that happens on your Mac, and some of it happens on our servers and through AI providers we've vetted. Which parts go where — and what we do and don't keep — is spelled out on the Privacy page.

The trial, and paying for Pro

Free trial

You get 8 minutes of dictation free, with no credit card. When it's used up, dictation stops until you subscribe. It's one trial per person — please don't try to reset it.

Pro

Pro is $8 a month, charged in advance, renewing automatically until you cancel. Payments run through Stripe — we never see or store your card. If a payment fails, Pro may pause until it goes through.

Cancelling

Cancel any time from your account — no email, no hoops. You keep Pro until the end of the period you've already paid for, and you won't be charged again.

14-day money-back guarantee

If Cira isn't for you, email support@heycira.app within 14 days of your first payment and we'll refund it in full, back to the card you paid with. Pro access ends when the refund goes through. This covers your first payment — after that, cancelling before the next renewal is how you stop paying.

If the price changes

We'll tell you at least 30 days before a price change reaches you, by email and in the app. It only applies to renewals after that, so you can cancel first if you'd rather not.

Using Cira fairly

Nothing surprising here. Please don't:

  • Use Cira to break the law or to hurt someone.
  • Resell Cira, or share your access with others.
  • Work around the trial limit, usage limits, or billing.
  • Reverse-engineer or tamper with the app or the servers.
  • Hammer the service with automated traffic.

If something here is seriously or repeatedly broken, we may suspend or close the account.

What you dictate is yours

You keep every right to what you say and write. The only permission you give us is the narrow, temporary one we need to actually run the service — to transcribe your audio, clean up the text, and hand it back to you. Nothing beyond that. We don't train AI models on your writing, and we don't sell it. The Privacy page has the detail on what's processed where.

Availability, updates, and changes

We work to keep Cira running, but we can't promise it's always up — it can pause for maintenance, or because something upstream broke. Features can change, and if we remove something significant we'll say so first.

One thing worth knowing: Cira doesn't update itself. New versions are downloaded and installed by you. That means a much older copy can eventually stop working when the servers move on, so it's worth staying reasonably current.

Ending things

You can stop using Cira and cancel whenever you like. We can suspend or end access if the fair-use terms above are seriously broken. And if we ever discontinue Cira, we'll give notice and refund whatever you've prepaid and not used. What's stored on your Mac stays on your Mac; what's on our servers is handled as described on the Privacy page.

The legal necessities

Cira is provided as it is. Speech recognition is never perfect, and we can't promise the app is error-free or that every transcription is accurate — please check anything that matters before you send it.

To the extent the law allows, our liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before a claim, and we're not liable for indirect or knock-on losses.

Nothing here takes away rights you have under consumer protection law — in British Columbia or wherever you live. Where those rights conflict with something above, those rights win.

Changes to these terms, and which law applies

If these terms change, the updated version goes here with a new date, and we'll flag anything material in the app. Carrying on using Cira after that means you're okay with the change.

These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada.
